Manistee Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count

Date:  Friday December 19th

Join us for the Christmas Bird Count.  If you are skilled in bird identification we need you to count in the field or at home at your feeders.  Field counters can join one of our many field leaders to count birds in their part of the Manistee area for either the morning or the entire day.  Feeder watchers count the birds coming into their feeders for a specified time.   For example two hours in the morning keeping track of how many of each species appear at at your feeders.

There is a compilation dinner for all the field observers at the home of Brian Allen the compiliar.

November Members Slide Show Nov. 19, 2026 7:00pm

Join members of the Manistee Audubon for a members slidefest on Wednesday evening November 19 at 7:00pm.  Members will show slides of birds and wildlife and natural areas they have experienced in the last year.

Location: Oak Grove Hospitality Center 309 W. Parkdale Ave.  Manistee Michigan

Refreshments will be served.

Spring Bird Walks 2024

 Join Brian Allen guide for bird walks this spring.  First is Saturday March 30, 2024 at the M-22 end of the Arcadia Boardwalk.  Dress for cold weather and bring binoculars.  We will start at 9:00am and look for early arriving ducks in the marsh.

April 17 meet at North Point Park parking lot at the end of Seymour St. in Onekama Township (just off Portage Point Drive).  Again starting at 9:00 we will search for early spring migrants.

All the following walks will start at 9:00 and meet at the locations mentioned above:

April 20th Arcadia Marsh.

May 8th North Point Park.

May 20th Arcadia Marsh.

May 29th North Point Park.

Greetings Audubon Members, we will be hiking the New Arcadia Marsh Boardwalk. On Wed. Oct. 9, at 6pm. Bring your binoculars and wear appropriate clothing. The hike will be lead by club member and international birder Dr. Brian Allen. Meet at the parking lot on M-22 – just after the causeway and before the ice cream parlor.

This walk is a round trip of less then 2 miles is a very easy and scenic hike.

Program Title - Hunting & Wildlife Conservation.

Where - Oak Grove Center - 309 Parkdale Ave.

Presenter – Tim Granger, biological technician with the US Fish & Wildlife Service.

Tim has been a Manistee Audubon member since the inception of our club in 1983. Tim will present a power point program on the value of the modern hunting season through revenue raised and wildlife conservation efforts. All are welcome, come and share you bird sightings. Julie Baker is the director for the Michigan Songbird Protection Coalition. Michigan’s mourning doves and Sandhill cranes are once again under threat. Join us to learn about how you can help keep traditional non-game protections of our native wild birds in place.
